Hilliard Islamic Center donates more than 2,000 meals to health care workers

A local man is doing more than his part to support the frontline medical workers fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Suhail Hasham is one of the directors of the Noor Islamic and Cultural Center in Hilliard.

He started the "Healthy Bite Initiative," to deliver 50 free meals every day to the staff at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Since March 30, they have provided more than 2,000 meals to medical workers.

"Everybody in the community wanted to do something for them. We found this to be a simple gesture, a tiny thing that we can do for them. We can't fight their fight they're doing. We are staying at home, doing the best we can to save them from fighting a lot more than they can take. But we also wanted to do something more, and do it as a community."

Hasham says he will continue the daily delivery of meals as long as they are needed.

There are now 31,625 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ohio体育投注; 1,888 people have died from the virus and 5,773 were hospitalized, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
